An entire family was shot dead in the US state of North Carolina on Tuesday evening. The story behind it is shocking: Kinsley W.* (6) is playing with other children in the street with a basketball when it rolls into the neighbour’s yard. This upset the man so much that he immediately took up arms.
Kinsley W.’s mother tells WSOC-TV that the American ran furiously down the street with a gun in his hand. He then returned and shot at the girl and her parents. Kinsley suffered a facial injury when she was hit by shrapnel in the hail of bullets.
Father was seriously injured
Her father was seriously injured when he threw himself in front of his family. Several bullets hit him in the back. He is still in the hospital.
The mother told the TV station that the neighbor looked at her husband and daughter and yelled, “I’m going to kill you!”
Not an isolated case
The suspected shooter is 24-year-old Robert S.* According to witnesses, he did not stop shooting until his ammunition ran out. The gunman was then able to run away from the crime scene and is still a fugitive.
He is charged with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon. Police are hoping for help from the public. Such violence will not be tolerated.
This incident is not uncommon in the United States. A 16-year-old boy was shot dead in Missouri last Thursday after accidentally knocking on the wrong door. And on Saturday, a young woman in upstate New York was fatally shot after going into the wrong driveway. (A)
