The arrest warrant against Christian B. was lifted.

The court in Braunschweig declared itself “incompetent with regard to the accusations against Christian B.* and lifted the arrest warrant against him”, according to the suspect’s lawyer, Friedrich Fülscher (38). That reports “Bild”.

“The defense already pointed out during the investigation that the Braunschweig judiciary should not have local jurisdiction,” Fülscher added.

The public prosecutor in Braunschweig had reported the alleged kidnapper and murderer of Maddie McCann (aged three at the time of the kidnapping). The process should start this year. The allegations were based on evidence that emerged during the investigation.

Who is responsible?

Defense attorney Fülscher had doubted whether Braunschweig was responsible at all. The public prosecutor’s office took responsibility from the fact that Christian B. had his last registered residence in 2016 in the city in the state of Lower Saxony.

“Before his arrest abroad, the suspect lived on his property in Neuwegersleben,” argues Fülscher. The Federal Court of Justice had long since decided that the suspect’s address was irrelevant in determining his place of residence.

The Maddie case has been unsolved for years

According to the report, the alleged perpetrator owned a dilapidated warehouse in the town in Saxony-Anhalt. Consequently, the public prosecutor’s office and the court in the capital Magdeburg would be responsible.

Alternatively, law enforcement agencies in Frankfurt am Main could also be in charge of the case. There B. was handed over to German hands after his arrest in Italy.

Fülscher complains that the Braunschweig public prosecutor’s office clung to the case for incomprehensible and questionable reasons. B. is not released despite the lifting of the arrest warrant. Because: He is currently in prison for a rape. One thing is still clear given the court confusion: the Maddie case has still not been cleared up. (nad)
