Big, bigger, Zeus! The XXL mastiff Zeus has made it into the Guinness Book of Records. It has been declared the world’s largest living dog. When he stands on his hind legs, he can look down on almost anyone: according to the Guinness Book, Zeus measures 2.13 meters while standing. On all fours, the highest point – the so-called withers – is 104.6 centimeters.

The Mega Wauwau lives in Bedford, Texas. According to his mistress Brittany Davis, the dog not only needs a lot of space, but also a lot of food: he eats up to twelve cups of dry food a day. His favorite food: ice cubes.

Surprised comments are commonplace

Because of his enormous size, Zeus has become a local legend. So he gets a lot of attention at the local farmer’s market – and every now and then he gets a treat. Surprised faces are the order of the day: “The comments we hear most often are ‘Wow, that’s a horse!’, ‘Can I ride it?’ or “Does he have a saddle?” Guinness Book “The answer to all these questions is no.”

Despite his size, Zeus is a gentle fellow, Davis assures. He lives at home in Bedford with three Australian Shepherds. Although Great Danes tend to have shorter lifespans due to their size, according to Davis, Zeus is in excellent health.

Coincidentally, the Texas Zeus isn’t the first Zeus to hold the title: According to Guinness, the largest dog ever recorded was also a Great Dane named Zeus. He was 111.8 centimeters tall. (Darling)
