On the night of January 29, a funeral director in Grand Junction, Colorado, was supposed to turn over a dead man for organ donation. The traffic situation was difficult because a heavy snow storm was raging. When the funeral director wanted to avoid a road user with the hearse and changed lanes, he collided with the crash barrier.
The hearse broke through the barrier, fell off a cliff and stopped at the edge of a ravine. The front of the car was already dangling over the abyss. However, due to the weight of the corpse in the back, the vehicle did not fall forward and remained standing on the edge.
The driver and his family told CBS News Colorado that body weight likely stopped the hearse from going down. The undertaker said it undoubtedly saved his life. The man did not want to take a position in front of the camera.
A photo of the scene of the accident shows the nose of the hearse hovering above the canyon. In a TV recording, a police officer can be heard saying, “That’s one lucky bastard,” he says as he walks to the hearse. (no)
