Joe Biden and Kamala Harris release their tax returns

US President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have released their 2022 tax returns.

According to this, the Biden couple had a taxable income of $ 534,912 last year (about 480,000 francs). The Bidens then paid nearly $170,000 in taxes. Before tax write-offs, the couple’s income was just under $580,000, according to the document. Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, paid about $120,000 in taxes on a combined income of just over $456,000.

The tax returns of American presidents have been a political issue at least since Biden’s predecessor Donald Trump. Trump resisted the release of his tax records for years, even going to the U.S. Supreme Court to prevent them from being released. In the end, however, he lost and the House Budget Committee released Trump’s tax returns for the years 2015-2020.

Accordingly, Trump made some losses and profits in the tens of millions. In some years, according to records, he paid little to no taxes. Real estate entrepreneur Trump had always tried to present himself as a successful businessman. However, the tax returns revealed huge deficits.

Taxes are a pain point for Trump. Just last week, he was questioned by New York prosecutors about his business practices. He, the company named after him and his three children, Donald Junior, Eric and Ivanka, are accused of scaling up or down-sizing assets as needed, including to pay less tax. (sda/dpa)
