Woman drives into wrong driveway and is shot in US

In upstate New York, a young woman was shot dead after accidentally driving her car into someone else’s driveway. According to police, the 20-year-old was driving with three friends on Saturday night in a rural area near the city of Hebron and was looking for a friend’s house.

As the Sheriff in charge Jeffrey Murphy said Monday (local time), the youths got lost and soon realized they had chosen the wrong driveway. At that moment, a man came out of the house and fired two shots at the car. The woman was fatally injured.

The alleged perpetrator, a 65-year-old, has been arrested and must now answer for manslaughter, among other things, according to Murphy. “It’s a very sad case.”

Murphy told CNN on Tuesday that the man had not cooperated with police and showed no remorse. “He was not threatened in any way,” said the policeman. The group had no contact with the resident and was about to drive away. It’s a pointless tragedy.

A similar case recently sparked outrage in Missouri, where a teenager was shot and injured by a homeowner after entering the wrong way through the front door. According to American media, the 16-year-old wanted to pick up his siblings in Kansas City, but accidentally knocked on the wrong door. The homeowner then shot and killed the black young man. The boy survived. The alleged perpetrator was charged with aggravated assault.

The United States has long experienced levels of gun violence that are hard to comprehend. (sda/dpa)
