Slovakia has handed over 13 fighter jets to Ukraine

He wrote on Facebook: “We have managed to transfer the fighter jets, which are no longer useful to Slovakia itself, and which will protect innocent lives from Russian killings in Ukraine.” After the first four MiG-29s were flown across the border by Ukrainian pilots in March, the remaining nine aircraft were transported overland for security reasons, Nad said.

The minister reiterated that Ukraine has the capacity to maintain and repair the aircraft itself. Earlier, he justified the domestically controversial transfer with the fact that the Slovak Air Force had to dismantle the machines in the summer of 2022. In Slovakia, a NATO country, they could only be serviced by “hostile” Russian technicians.
