In the eastern Pyrenees, the forest is on fire.

A forest fire broke out in Cerbère in the eastern Pyrenees in southern France on Sunday. The fire has destroyed about 750 hectares of forest so far, the regional radio station France Bleu reported, citing the prefect of the department. More than 200 people have been evacuated.

Strong wind hinders the extinguishing work

According to information from the regional television station France 3 Occitanie, more than 300 French firefighters have been mobilized. Spanish troops are also on the scene. The town of Cerbère is located right on the border with Spain.

It is a very dry area and the strong winds are dangerous, Sdis, a fire service responsible for the region, told the broadcaster. Due to the strong wind, the firefighting planes had to stop their mission. The cause of the fire that broke out on Sunday morning has not yet been clarified. (SDA)
