A former Indian politician and his brother were killed live on camera

About a hundred criminal cases were collected against former parliamentarian Atiq Ahmed, who was in police custody.

Former Indian politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were killed on live television when they were accompanied by the state police Uttar Pradeshin the north of the country.

Ahmed was speaking to reporters on Saturday night when three men who had infiltrated a group of journalists opened fire on him and his brother shouting “Hail to God Ram”, a Hindu gathering place in attacks on the country’s Muslim minority.

The police managed to arrest the three attackers, the Indian network NDTV reports to Europa Press.

Ahmed, a former Member of Parliament, and his brother were in police custody and he arrived in the city of Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh, to face the trial for murder.

Both he was arrested in April in connection with the death of Umesh Pal in Februarya key witness in the 2005 assassination of Raja Pal, an MP belonging to the regional Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).

Uttar Pradesh is ruled by the ruling Hindu nationalist Indian People’s Party, and opposition parties criticized the killings as a security lapse.

“Crime has reached its peak in Uttar Pradesh and morale of criminals has skyrocketed,” tweeted Akhilesh Yadav, leader of the opposition Samajwadi Party, in Hindi.

Ahmed accumulates a hundred criminal proceedings against himincluding several for assaults and murders, and his popularity reached notoriety in the 1990s, when he began a political career that led him to occupy a seat in India’s lower house of parliament, or Lok Sabha.
