Former European Parliament Vice-President Eva Kaili, suspected of corruption, has been released from prison on conditions.
Her daughter is waiting for her and she is very happy to be with her right away, Kaili told reporters on Friday upon arrival at her home in Brussels. Greek state television broadcast the scene.
After about four months in prison, the Greek woman is allowed to spend her further detention under house arrest with electronic monitoring. She was the last suspect in the scandal to serve time in prison.
The bribery scandal that came to light at the end of last year concerns alleged influence by the governments of Qatar and Morocco on decisions by the EU parliament. The public prosecutor accuses the suspect of corruption, money laundering and membership of a criminal organization.
