In February 2019, Rebecca Reusch disappeared.

Rebecca Reusch has been missing for four years. The then 15-year-old spent the night of February 18, 2019 with her sister. Since then there has been no sign of life from her. Until now, the only suspect was her brother-in-law Florian R.* However, the family always supported him. Since there was no corpse or reliable evidence against him, he was released after a short time.

The police think that Rebecca did not leave the house in Berlin-Britz alive, RTL reports. If she has left the house, these are the four most likely theories about her disappearance.

1

Rebecca committed suicide

“Becci has always been bullied since seventh grade. Many things happened when I was at school, of which I thought: that’s the crux of the matter in her disappearance,” says her mother to RTL. So would she have committed suicide? The police do not believe in suicide, explains Superintendent Peter Schnieders explains: “I don’t think she committed suicide, because she should have done it very smartly.” Moreover, suicides among 15-year-olds are rare.

2

Secret meeting between BTS fans

The then 15-year-old was a huge fan of South Korean boy band BTS. “She also had a lot of pictures of the band in her room and T-shirts, sweaters,” says her sister Vivien. So it’s entirely possible that Rebecca met someone from the BTS community the morning she disappeared.

There is also a tradition among fans to take a picture of themselves in front of a purple background on a band member’s birthday. February 18 was one of those birthdays. Spicy: A purple blanket and a Polaroid camera disappeared with Rebecca. Just coincidence? Police say it’s possible someone approached them under the guise of being a BTS fan.

Rebecca has been kidnapped

The police cannot rule out that Rebecca Reusch has been kidnapped. “Of course there are people who could kidnap such a young girl, take them home and lock them up there,” says the detective. Schnieders continues: “Past cases – not only in Germany but also abroad – show that this possibility is there.”

4

Rebecca Reusch lives abroad

After the teen’s disappearance, witnesses reported seeing Rebecca abroad. Pawel W. is one of them. During a business trip to Krakow, Poland, he allegedly saw a girl who looked very much like Rebecca. The special thing about it: Pawel W. spoke of braces – a detail that was not yet known to the public at the time. The witness allegedly saw her with a 30-year-old man and “the two seemed like a couple”.

“You have to look into it because there is always the possibility that Rebecca disappeared voluntarily – or was forced,” Schnieders explains. However, the officials could never follow the trail in Krakow. When the officers wanted to review the video material, it had already been removed.

For the police, brother-in-law Florian R. remains the main suspect. At a home inspection this week, detectives would have seized a bathrobe with a missing belt. The extent to which the find has anything to do with the disappearance of the young people must now be determined by further investigation. (lia)
