Truck calls for help in Mexico – more than 200 migrants released

209 migrants were found in an abandoned truck in eastern Mexico. The people from Central and South America were freed from the vehicle at Nuevo Teapa in the state of Veracruz after calling for help, the immigration service INM reported Thursday (local time). Among them were children and young people. A migrant was taken to a hospital with suffocation symptoms, the statement said.

That’s why a false ceiling was pulled into the closed loading space of the truck to be able to transport even more people. Most of the migrants came out Guatemala. Also people out Honduras, Salvador And Ecuador were in the truck.

Two weeks ago, 40 migrants died and nearly 30 others were injured in a fire at an INM assembly point in the Mexican city of Ciudad Juárez on the US border. The men were trapped and could not get to safety.

The Attorney General’s Office is investigating the case on suspicion of murder. Five police officers and a migrant are detained and more arrest warrants follow. The migrant is said to have set fire to mattresses, causing the devastating fire. The officials, in turn, would not have offered any help.
