Last week, news of the death of Cash App inventor Bob Lee († 43) shocked the tech scene. The father of two was the victim of a stabbing in San Francisco and succumbed to his severe stab wounds in hospital.
So far there are no indications of suspects. Until now. As the newspaper “Mission Local” reports, a colleague of Lee has been arrested in connection with the murder of the founder of the mobile payment service.
Arrested and charged with murder
According to the police, this is Nima M.* (38). He was arrested and charged with murder. “We can confirm that Mr. Lee and Mr. Momeni knew each other,” San Francisco Police Chief William Scott, 52, said at a news conference Thursday.
Authorities declined to release further details. However, Scott stressed that the act had “nothing to do with San Francisco”. It is therefore clear that the murder was a purely interpersonal affair. It has previously been claimed in certain circles that the tech magnate’s murder was due to the state of the roads in San Francisco.
The perpetrator allegedly stabbed Lee several times
As the “Mission Local” continues to write, M. should also be active in the tech industry – he heads an IT company. On that evening M. is said to have been driving through the city with Lee when a fight suddenly broke out. Then the tech tycoon Lee would have left.
Then the situation seems to have escalated. As the newspaper reports, citing police sources, M. Lee allegedly followed suit. He then attacked him with a knife on a more secluded street. The alleged perpetrator allegedly stabbed Lee several times with a knife.
Police say the motive is still unclear. An acquaintance of M. is shocked by his arrest. “He was a really nice guy and everyone is shocked that he’s being charged with this murder,” Sam Singer told the New York Post. (dzc)
