Several tanks are in the middle of the river, the crew have fled or been killed. The pontoons originally intended to cross the river were destroyed. A video circulating on Telegram provides further evidence of the failed Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The video is likely to annoy Russian President Vladimir Putin, 70. And not only that: the controversial head of the Russian ground forces, Alexander Lapin (59), is said to be responsible for the loss of the equipment shown – and much more equipment.

Ukrainians capture T-90 tanks

A telegram channel called “Grey Zone”, which is close to the Wagner mercenary group, writes in a message that at least 73 pieces of equipment were lost while crossing the Siverskyi Donets River in eastern Ukraine. That’s where the video was made. The disturbance general would be responsible for the withdrawal from the Kharkov region.

Russian military bloggers blame Lapin for defeats at Izyum, Lyman and Balakliia. The Ukrainians are said to have destroyed or captured more than 200 abandoned military vehicles, including top-class T-90 tanks. Those who have done the math know that Lapin’s failure cost the Russian military about 300 military vehicles and other equipment.

Hardliners hate Alexander Lapin

His failure earned him fierce criticism from Russian hardliners last year. Chechen ruler Ramzan Kadyrov (46) and Wagner boss Yevgeny Prigoshin (61) in particular expressed their displeasure. In November, Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin had had enough – and then Colonel General Lapin was ousted.

But the former chief of staff of the Russian army in Syria celebrated his return as chief of staff of the ground forces in Ukraine in January. At the time, the Kremlin explained the decision with its “outstanding merits” in the “demilitarization” of Ukraine. However, the revelation of Lapin’s disastrous record exposes another cheap lie by the Kremlin.
