In the war against Ukraine, Russia had difficulty mobilizing its men. Until now, the summons was handed over in person and had to be signed to be valid. The conscripts easily evaded the contingent by not showing up anywhere.
However, this will no longer be possible in the future, as the “Spiegel” reports. The State Duma has decided to offer the draft online. The notification can reach the conscripts anytime and anywhere through the state service portal Gosuslugi. Among other things, once the recruits are registered in the system, they cannot leave the country until they appear on the summons.
The voting only took a few seconds
Those who do not report to the military commissariat within 20 days must expect drastic consequences. A conscientious objector is no longer allowed to drive. They also do not get loans and are not allowed to buy real estate. In addition, registration as a self-employed person is not accepted.
Duma deputies voted on the new law in a split second – and accepted it. Apparently, some of the quick vote didn’t even have time to read the new legislation. As soon as Kremlin boss Vladimir Putin (70) signs the new law, it will come into effect.
The new regulation suggests that a new mobilization could be pending. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov (55), on the other hand, explained that the initiative should be understood as general digitization. This has nothing to do with a covert mobilization. (lia)
