Even if Pearl is only the size of a banknote, don’t put it in your wallet. Because Pearl is a two-year-old Chihuahua. More precisely: the smallest living dog in the world. That reports the Guinness World Records book, which Pearl awarded the title last weekend.
Pearl is 9.14 inches tall, 12.7 inches tall and weighs 553 grams. She weighed 28 grams at birth and is related to the previous record holder Miracle, who passed away in 2020. Miracle was 9.65 centimeters tall.
Pearl’s owner Vanesa Semler describes Pearl as “small as a ball and a little bit bigger than a teacup”. The American was also the owner of Miracle.
The smallest dog is so small:

“We’re lucky to have them,” says Semler, who owns three other dogs. “And we have a unique opportunity to break our own record and share this great news with the world.”
To determine Pearl’s size, she was measured three times in a row. Each measurement was taken from the leg of the foreleg to the withers (the edge between the shoulder blades) in a straight vertical line.
The smallest dog ever recorded was a miniature Yorkshire terrier from Great Britain. He was 7.11 centimeters tall and measured 9.5 centimeters from the tip of his nose to the tip of his tail. He died in 1945, just before his second birthday.
