Connor S.* († 23) shot into a bank in Louisville on Monday, killing four people.

In the US state of Kentucky, a heavily armed man stormed the Old National Bank in Louisville at 8:30 a.m. Monday, killing four people.

Unbelievable: the shooter, who is Connor S.* († 23), would even have filmed the bloody act and broadcast it live on the social network Instagram. This was announced by local police chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel.

“It is very tragic to know that this incident was recorded,” she said. However, the police are optimistic that they can take the images offline. According to the spokeswoman, the gunman was shot dead by the police after pointing the gun at the emergency services.

Schütze was fired before the crime

According to American media, S. worked for the bank as a summer intern for three years before becoming a permanent employee in 2021. As “CNN” reports, citing a source familiar with the investigation, S. was recently told he would be fired.

He allegedly left a message to his family and friends that he would shoot down the bank.

According to the police chief, the officers arrived at the bank a few minutes after the first emergency call. The fast response time has saved lives. Yet all help came too late for four people. The fatalities are three men and a woman between the ages of 40 and 64.

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, 45, said he himself lost one of his best friends in the attack. “He is one of the people I have spoken to the most and very rarely have we spoken about my work. He was an incredible friend,” the governor said of the dead man.

Police officer was shot in the head

Nine other people were injured in the bloody act and had to be taken to hospital. Three of them are in critical condition. Among them was a young police officer (26) who had just graduated from the police academy. According to police, he was shot in the head when confronted by the gunman. He was in critical but stable condition after brain surgery.

As the police said on Monday, the shooter was not known to the police.

Biden calls for stricter gun laws

After Monday’s shooting, US President Joe Biden (80) once again called for tightening of gun laws in the country. “Too many Americans pay the price of inaction with their lives,” he said Monday. “When Will Republicans in Congress Step Up to Protect Our Communities?”

His predecessors repeatedly failed to persuade parliament, riddled with partisan divisions, to ban assault rifles and other protective measures. To implement them, Biden and his Democrats would have to rely on the willingness of Republicans in Congress to cooperate — but that’s not in sight at this point.

Attempts to introduce stricter gun laws have been unsuccessful for years – mainly because the Republicans are against it. And because the gun lobby, led by the powerful National Rifle Association (NRA), vehemently opposes any attempt to tighten gun control. (dzc/SDA)
