Since the beginning of the war, Kiev has been talking about the number of casualties on the Russian side. Ukraine is silent about the losses of its own armed forces. It will be a “terrible number”, Ukraine’s ambassador to Britain, Wadym Prystajko, 53, told the “Daily Express”. But “our policy from the beginning was not to talk about losses,” the ambassador said.
The former foreign minister of Ukraine expresses contempt for the war opponent, who hates his own troops. “This is where we differ from the Russians. Every Ukrainian life is dear to us. The Russian elite don’t seem to care how many of their soldiers are killed.”
Ambassador Prystajko does not believe in peace negotiations. Fight to the last man if necessary. “We cannot deal with people who have come to kill our people and destroy our nation. For us, the decision is that the Russians must get out of our country. So we must fight to the very last of them – or, alas, to the last of us.”
Video shows “true hell” on the front
The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense publishes daily the current casualty figures of the Russian army, but it is silent about its own victims. Kiev is currently reporting losses on the Russian side in excess of 175,000. Some 120,000 people were killed and wounded in Ukraine in the first year of the war, according to Western military experts, as the Washington Post reported in March.
A dramatic video now shines the spotlight on the hushed horror at the front. It shows Ukrainian paratroopers recovering a wounded soldier in Marinka during a skirmish.
The 83 seconds show “true hell”, says the Eastern European news portal “Nexta”. (kes)
