On Telegram, the head of the Wagner group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, lashed out at the governor of St. Petersburg.

The situation is tense among the most powerful in Russia – and not just since yesterday. The latest scandal emerges in St. Petersburg, the birthplace of Russian President Vladimir Putin (70).

Wagner boss Yevgeny Prigoshin (61) and the governor of St. Petersburg, Alexander Beglow (66), are currently involved in a fierce power struggle there. Prigozhin did not mince words and on Friday on his Telegram channel insulted the politician of the Kremlin Party “United Russia” in the worst possible way. He calls him an “asshole” and writes that Beglow is “out of place” in the town.

“He is absolutely useless to this town”

The reason for Prigozhin’s anger is the attack on the Russian military blogger Vladlen Tatarsky († 40). The propagandist was killed on Sunday in a bomb attack in the café of a Wagner boss in St. Petersburg. Prigozhin now accuses the governor of not taking any action after the murder. In addition, the top politician must lie to the public and ignore the security situation in the metropolis.

“Beglow has not provided any assistance after this terrorist attack. I also believe it is his fault that there is no security in the city that could have prevented it,” said the Wagner boss. His demands are therefore clear: Beglow must be investigated. “He’s absolutely useless to this town.”

Prigozhin had previously filed a complaint against the governor on another issue. The accusation: Beglow is said to have allowed hundreds of cultural monuments in the former tsarist metropolis to degenerate.

The governor, who has been in office since 2018, has been attacked several times by the Wagner boss. It is an open secret that Prigozhin Beglov considers his enemy. The politician has not yet responded to the insults of the Wagner boss. (dzc)
