Silvio Berlusconi (86) is doing badly: The former Italian government leader was admitted to the San Raffaele hospital in Milan on Wednesday and ended up in intensive care. He had previously complained of breathing difficulties.

Serious bleeding disorder in Berlusconi

Berlusconi “is in intensive care due to a problem with an unresolved infection. But he speaks,” said Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani (69) on Forza Italia on Wednesday. On Thursday, Corriere della Sera shocked Italy with a report that Berlusconi was suffering from leukaemia. The politician’s lung and heart problems are a side effect of blood cancer.

Berlusconi’s family was rushed to hospital on Wednesday. With him are his partner Marta Fascina (33) and his children Marina, Barbara, Eleonora, Piersilvio and Luigi.

Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni (46) “sincerely and lovingly” wished Berlusconi a “speedy recovery” on Twitter. Italy “is waiting for you”, said Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini (50), also on Twitter.

Berlusconi’s lengthy medical file

In the recent past, Berlusconi, one of the most important figures in European politics in recent decades, has repeatedly struggled with health problems. The former head of government was hospitalized again and again, most recently in the past week – according to official information for checks.

In April 2021 he was in hospital for more than three weeks due to the consequences of a corona infection he contracted in 2020. The multi-billionaire underwent open-heart surgery in 2016 and intestinal obstruction in 2019.

Berlusconi has dominated public life in Italy for decades in various roles – not only as a politician, but also as a media magnate and former owner of AC Milan football club. He served as prime minister three times between 1994 and 2011.
