North Korean state media have heavily criticized US military exercises with its Asian allies and speak of imminent nuclear war. A commentary on Thursday said the United States has held “war aggression exercises” in the region several times since the start of the year, despite warnings from Pyongyang. The exercises would “bring the security situation on the Korean peninsula to the brink of nuclear war,” the article said, which the KCNA news agency attributed to “international security analyst” Choe Ju Hyon.
«Wild Military Exercises»
The conflict with North Korea, which is subject to international sanctions because of its nuclear weapons program, is currently intensifying. The country has increased the number of tests with nuclear-capable missiles and cruise missiles since last year. The United States and South Korea, for their part, resume full-scale joint military exercises. Both countries have denied North Korea’s accusation that their maneuvers were preparations for an attack. North Korea, ruled by ruler Kim Jong-un (39), has repeatedly threatened the United States and South Korea with a nuclear strike because of their past maneuvers.
The North Korean commentator also criticized Japan’s involvement in the exercises. Most recently, the US naval forces have undergone anti-submarine training with South Korea and Japan. The aircraft carrier USS Nimitz also participated. “The savage military exercises of the United States and its vassal forces have turned the Korean peninsula into a great powder magazine ready to explode,” the paper said.
