It’s no secret that Kremlin boss Vladimir Putin (70) is very concerned about his own safety. Not only would they have to have three lookalikes, but they would now only have to travel on one armored train for fear of attack.
As Gleb Karakulov, a former Russian security official, now reveals, Putin’s paranoia may be worse than previously thought. In an interview with the Dossier Center platform, a research project by Kremlin enemy Mikhail Khodorkovsky (59), the ex-security guard who defected last year, provides insight into a secret train network, identical offices in different cities and a strict personal Quarantine. For security reasons, the interview, which was conducted at the end of 2022, has only now been published.
The Kremlin boss shouldn’t have a cell phone or internet
Karakulov worked for years for the powerful agency of the Federal Protection Service (FSO), which is tasked with protecting Russia’s top officials. According to his own statement, he is said to have accompanied the Kremlin boss on more than 130 trips. According to him, Putin, whom he describes as “morbidly afraid for his life”, has “lost touch with the world”.
“He has lived in an information cocoon for the past few years, spending most of his time in his homes, which the media aptly describe as bunkers,” the former Russian official said. Moreover, Putin surrounded himself with an impenetrable barrier of quarantines and an information vacuum.
For example, Putin would rely solely on the reports of his security services when collecting his information. “He only gets information from his closest circle.” Putin doesn’t even have a cell phone or internet.
Putin is still in self-isolation
Putin’s lifestyle has changed considerably since the outbreak of the corona pandemic. “He shut himself off from the world,” Karakulov said.
Three years later, the Kremlin chief still lives in isolation. His fear of catching Covid-19 is too great. Those who want to visit Putin must be quarantined for two weeks. In addition, strict testing requirements would continue to apply and all Kremlin employees would have to be vaccinated.
‘He only values his own life’
But not only with regard to Corona, also when it comes to his whereabouts, Putin is too careful. According to the Russian news service Proekt, there is a secret railway network to which all the residences of the Russian president are connected.
According to Karakulov, the Kremlin ruler would also use identical offices in St. Petersburg, Sochi and Novo-Ogaryovo to hide where he is currently located. The secret services also regularly used bogus motorcades and fake planes to fake Putin’s departure. “This is a ploy, firstly to confuse foreign secret services and secondly to prevent attempts on his life,” said the former official.
In Karakulov’s eyes, Putin is a war criminal. “He only values his own life and the lives of his family and friends.” Therefore, he urges his colleagues to release information that is being withheld from the Russian public. (dzc)
