This is Australia’s second largest ever heroin find

Mega drug find in Australia: Border authorities have seized a shipment of 336 kilograms of heroin from Malaysia on the east coast of the country in Brisbane. That is one third of the amount consumed annually throughout the country, the National Police reported on Tuesday. The street sales value is 268.8 million Australian dollars (153 million Swiss francs). It was the largest heroin find of all time in the state of Queensland – and the second largest in the entire country.

The shipment was addressed to an industrial estate in Brendale, north of Brisbane. His 960 packages were found in the blocks, each containing 350 grams of heroin.

A Sydney man was arrested in connection with the find, it said. The 55-year-old faces a life sentence.

“This amount of heroin would have caused untold damage to the community and strained our healthcare and social services – all in the name of greed,” police spokesman John Tanti said. The seizure is a huge financial blow to the smugglers. (sda/dpa)
