Twitter logo replaced with Dogecoin digital currency icon

Twitter users suddenly found a dog’s head in their profile on Monday instead of the usual blue bird logo. The online service switched to the image, which stands for the controversial digital currency Dogecoin, without any explanation.

Twitter owner Elon Musk has often mentioned the cryptocurrency, which was originally intended as a joke, over the years and must therefore defend himself against an investor lawsuit.

The price of Dogecoin, which has been in the basement for a long time, temporarily jumped by about a fifth after the logo change. But even after that, a unit of the digital currency only cost about ten cents. At its peak in spring 2021, it was briefly over 60 cents.

After the price collapse, an investor sued Musk, claiming he was part of an illegal Ponzi scheme that inflated the price of Dogecoin and then crashed.

Musk’s lawyers filed a request last week to dismiss the lawsuit, reiterating that the cryptocurrency is a legitimate investment with a total value of approximately $10 billion. Dogecoin has been around since 2013 and has the image of a dog from the Japanese Shiba Inu breed as its logo. (sda/dpa)
