A group of climate activists poured black liquid into the “Fontana della Barcaccia” at the famous Spanish Steps in Rome. According to their own statements, the members of the group “Ultima Generazione” (Last Generation) protested the political position on fossil fuels with the action on Saturday. The liquid they distributed in the water of the well was based on charcoal. To slow down global warming and the catastrophic consequences for humans and animals, the use of fossil fuels must be stopped, the activists say.
According to media reports, two men and a woman have been arrested following the protest in the fountain at the foot of the world-famous Spanish Steps. Two environmentalists recently smeared paint on Florence’s historic Palazzo Vecchio. (sda/dpa)
