Protest against US anti-trans law turns emotional – 19 people arrested

On Wednesday, protesters disrupted the process of passing an anti-trans law in the US state of Kentucky. They chanted slogans as MPs voted and eventually passed the law.

Some MPs gave impassioned speeches opposing the law and supporting the protests.

The law passed yesterday bans gender reassignment health care for people under the age of 18. In addition, teachers are no longer allowed to talk to students about sexual orientation or gender identity. In addition, trans children in schools are no longer allowed to use toilets that match their gender identity.

Nineteen demonstrators have been arrested after the protests in the House of Representatives.
