“There will be no reports at all,” Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov told Moscow state media on Wednesday. All formats suspended – data exchange, all inspection activities and other agreements in accordance with the “New Start” agreement suspended by Russia. There is also no information about missile tests.
The semi-annual exchange of information, such as the number of warheads and bombers on certain bases, is a benchmark of the “New Start” agreement. Since Moscow is not participating in the information exchange, the US would also have blocked it, National Security Council communications director John Kirby said Tuesday. He made it clear that the data would not be shared again until Russia was also ready.
The New Start Disarmament Treaty is the only remaining major arms control agreement between the United States and Russia. The treaty limits both countries’ nuclear arsenals to 800 delivery systems and 1,550 operational warheads each. Putin had stated that his move was not an exit from the agreement and that Russia wanted to stick to the agreed upper limits for nuclear weapons for the time being.
