According to media reports, a man from the Netherlands has fathered 550 children and must therefore answer to court. The accusation: possible inbreeding and incest.
The process was initiated by a Dutch donor foundation with a mother. According to a statement from the foundation, the donor deposited his sperm in at least 13 clinics at home and abroad and fathered at least 550 children. Among other things, he used social media to get in touch with prospective parents, the foundation announced on Sunday. He apparently lied about the number of children he had already fathered.
According to the clinic’s guidelines, a donor can donate sperm to up to 25 children or 12 families to prevent inbreeding, incest and psychological problems. The man would have promised in an advertisement for interested parties that he would father a maximum of this number of donor children.
One affected mother said, according to the foundation, “If I had known that he had fathered more than 100 children, I would never have chosen this donor.” According to media reports, the man from The Hague now lives in Kenya.
Accordingly, he was blacklisted in his home country and should no longer have been able to donate. He did anyway – abroad and sometimes under aliases. The case will go to court in April.
