An Australian found a huge gold nugget with his metal detector.

A prospector’s dream came true for one Australian – thanks to a state-of-the-art metal detector. He went on a voyage of discovery with the device. And indeed: the man suddenly came across a boulder of 4.6 kilos of gold.

Expert Darren Kamp, who valued the nugget at $160,000 and then bought it, told the BBC the nugget was the largest he had ever seen in his 43-year career: “I was just blown away. It’s a unique find.”

Usually collectors only find ordinary stones

Kamp didn’t think much of it at first when the finder, who wished to remain anonymous, entered his gold shop with a backpack and suddenly pulled out the huge piece. He was used to people bringing all sorts of things. However, these are usually not real gold, but counterfeit or ordinary stones. “I looked at him and told him there must have been over $100,000 in the find.”

The entire find weighed 4.6 kilograms and contained 2.6 kilograms of gold. Kamp did not want to pass up this golden opportunity and decided to buy the nugget.

Finder wants to give gifts to his wife first

The finder left his store satisfied. “He was happy that he could give his wife some gifts with the proceeds,” Kamp told the BBC.

The lucky man found the hammer in the Victoria Goldfields region, northwest of Melbourne. Gold was discovered there time and time again in the 19th century. (A)
