Yevgeni A. turned himself in to the police on Wednesday. He killed a man at the Send festival in Münster, North Rhine-Westphalia.

Suddenly Yevgeni A.* (21) took out a knife and stabbed him – right in the heart. And a family man (31) collapsed. Both men did not know each other. They met by chance on Saturday evening at the Send folk festival in Münster, North Rhine-Westphalia (D).

A fight broke out on a carousel. The exact background is unclear. The fact is: A. tapped off and attacked the 31-year-old. He didn’t stand a chance and died on the spot. And Yevgeni A. fled. The police immediately began to search for him under high pressure and therefore published a mugshot. A homicide detective is investigating. Now he has turned himself in at a police station in Münster.

According to the detectives, a judge issued an arrest warrant against the 21-year-old from Kazakhstan on Monday evening. The police searched the man’s home that same evening. However, he wasn’t there. The 24-year-old brother of the fugitive is also being sought. He would have attended the folk festival with A. on Saturday and be an important witness.

City under “shock” afterwards

The police have secured video recordings that, according to the head of the homicide commission, Heiner Olthuis, “show the suspect with his companion and the crime”.

The city of Münster ended the fair a day earlier than planned – the folk festival, which takes place three times a year and attracts up to a million visitors, was closed on Sunday.

Münster’s mayor, Markus Lewe (57), said on Sunday that the act was “a shock” to the city. He hopes that the perpetrator will be caught soon and that the crime will be solved. “After the fatal knife attack late Saturday night, the broadcast continues out of respect for the victim,” Lewe emphasizes.
