Biden also wants to designate an area in Nevada considered sacred by Native Americans as a new national monument. This would make the largely undeveloped area known as Avi Kwa Ame a designated conservation area.
According to the White House, the classification is intended to honor indigenous peoples while protecting public lands. The Castner Range area in Texas will also receive protected area status. Together, the two areas would have an area of almost 2100 square kilometers.
