Thermoses for water would have more bacteria than toilets

A team of researchers from the American company Water Filter conducted a study that warns of the presence of two bacteria in various types of bottles that people usually use to drink water or beverages.

The bacteria bacilli and gram-negative bacilli were found, which were present in bottles with a spout cap, a screw cap, and a straw cap.

According to the study, the packages contained 20.8 million colonies gram negative bacteria.

Researchers note that bottles contain 40,000 times more bacteria than a toilet bowl, four times more than a mouse and 14 times more than a pet.

Spout bottles with screw caps seem to harbor a lot more bacteria than other thermos models.

However, there is little evidence that the types of bacteria found in bottles are harmful to people.

Andrew Edwards, a molecular microbiologist from Imperial College in London, explained that there is a large number of different bacteria in the mouth, so it is not excluded that drinking vessels are covered with these microorganisms.

The expert adds that depending on what they are, bacteria in themselves would not be a problem, but their large presence can be a sign that something has not been cleaned for a long time.

For his part, Martín Piña, director of the food engineering program at UADE, emphasized that the packaging material is important. He emphasized that the smoother the material, it is better to store food.

In this sense, the expert primarily recommends steel ones. Also, don’t forget that thermoses must be washed constantly, after each use, with warm water and soap, and they must also be for personal use.
