Defense Minister Jaroslav Nad specified that it is about a dozen complete machines that have not been used since last summer. In addition, the neighboring country attacked by Russia was also provided with three machines without engines for salvage and other spare parts, ammunition and part of the Kub air defense system. Earlier, Poland had announced the delivery of fighter jets of the same type MiG-29.
Nad stated that “helping Ukraine save lives is a priority.” He told TASR news agency: “This is the main reason why we are giving Ukraine the MiGs, which we can no longer use anyway.”
Heger and Nad had already announced several times that Slovakia intends to transfer its aircraft to the Ukraine. It was unclear until the very end how the decision was to be made. The conservative-populist minority government was overthrown by a vote of no confidence in mid-December and is acting only on an interim basis. According to the prevailing legal opinion, it should therefore not take decisions that will have a long-term effect. Heger and Nad had therefore initially announced that they would bring about a constitutional amendment in parliament. When it turned out that there was not enough majority among the deputies for this, they changed their mind again.
