Because she beat her three-year-old stepson Harvey († 3) to death and filmed the dying child, a young woman in England has to go to prison for a long time. A court in Nottingham sentenced Leila Borrington (23) on Thursday to 15 years in prison for, among other things, manslaughter.
The child was the victim of a “sustained violent attack” in August 2021, according to the judge. Text messages from the convicts to the boy’s father after the crime showed “a shocking lack of care and concern”.
Video recording instead of an emergency call
At the time of the crime, the woman was alone with the three-year-old, who was unable to speak. She said the child fell backwards off a couch and hit his head on the floor. However, the court concluded that the woman had beaten the boy several times. She had already abused the child several times, breaking his arm.
When the boy lost consciousness, the stepmother filmed him and only called an ambulance a few minutes later. “She considered ways to evade responsibility for her actions as Harvey fought for his life,” prosecutors said. The boy died in hospital two days later. (SDA)
