A Russian skier has died after an avalanche in Nendaz in Valais. He was rescued dead from the snow masses, the Valais cantonal police announced on Wednesday evening. The 58-year-old fell into the avalanche of the slopes shortly before noon.
The large-scale avalanche crashed into the Tortin area in the municipality of Nendaz. A large number of rescue workers were deployed, including eight helicopters and several avalanche dogs. The search continued in the afternoon. This is to exclude other people from being buried under the avalanche, as announced by the Cantonal Police of Valais.
An avalanche had already fallen in the mountains near Nendaz on Monday, killing a Dutch skier when he was off-piste with two other skiers on his way to the Col des Gentianes towards Tortin. He also died at the scene of the accident. (sda)
