Republican Ron DeSantis gives to the Isolationists. The Florida governor, who is flirting with a presidential candidacy and could pose a threat to party favorite Donald Trump, believes that continuing the current course of the war in Ukraine is not in the interests of the United States. That is why the Republican speaks out against America’s “further involvement” – with DeSantis expressly describing the war as a “territorial dispute” and not Russia as an aggressor.
Tucker Carlson requested that potential GOP presidential candidates clarify their positions on US aid to Ukraine.
Donald Trump, Mike Pence, Ron DeSantis, Vivek Ramaswamy, Kristi Noem, Greg Abbott, Tim Scott and Chris Christie provided answers.

DeSantis continues that President Joe Biden’s administration, which promised to assist the beleaguered Ukraine to assist Kiev “as long as it is necessary,” is using this commitment to divert attention from the “key issues” facing the United States.
“We cannot prioritize intervention in an escalating war abroad over the defense of our own homeland,” DeSantis said. The governor also has no interest in supplying fighter jets to the Ukrainian armed forces. The risk of a direct confrontation between the two largest nuclear powers, the US and Russia, is “unacceptable”.
The Carlson-Trump-DeSantis axis
These views, which the governor has kept secret until now, can be found in a written statement DeSantis made to right-wing populist Fox News host Tucker Carlson. It is no coincidence that Carlson was chosen to deliver this message.
For DeSantis, who normally does not concern himself with fundamental foreign policy issues as governor, seems to be politicizing largely along the same lines as the popular TV host.
Night after night, Carlson claims that the American people are also suffering from the war in Ukraine – because the billions of dollars that Washington is making available to the Kiev government are no longer going to the people of Ohio, Texas or Florida. Trump hits a similar note. The former president describes the war in Eastern Europe as the harbinger of World War III and claims that in a second term he would end the conflict immediately.
