200 leaders call for an end to vaccine injustice Historic third term: China’s People’s Congress confirms Xi in office

Three years after the spread of the coronavirus was classified as a pandemic, nearly 200 personalities have called for an end to vaccine injustice in the world. Unequal access to vaccines, such as during the corona pandemic, must “never” be repeated, they said on Saturday. The World Health Organization (WHO) classified the spread of the coronavirus as a pandemic on March 11, 2020.

The vaccines against the coronavirus were and are available differently in the individual countries. While large parts of the population were vaccinated relatively quickly in industrialized countries, there was hardly any vaccine available in poor countries.

This should not happen again in future pandemics, said the now-released statement, which was coordinated by the non-governmental organization People’s Vaccine Alliance. “The decisions made now will determine how the world prepares for and responds to future global health crises.”

The statement’s signatories include several Nobel laureates, former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, and former heads of state and government from more than 40 countries. (saw/sda/afp)
