“I’m so sad,” says Praskoviya Mihalovna, 67. “It hurts so much that the Russians did this!”
Mihalovna speaks about a video that has been circulating on social media. It shows how the Ukrainian soldier Oleksandr Matsiyevsky († 42) is brutally executed. He was the son of Mihalovna. Russian soldiers fired at him with machine guns from a few feet away, even though he had long since surrendered. And film the whole thing. Before he was shot, he said: “Glory to Ukraine!”
Mihalovna watched the video on the couch at home in Germany. And on Facebook. She tells the “Bild” she visited: “I just yelled:” Sasha! Sascha! This is our Sasha!” That is her son’s nickname. According to “Bild”, she repeatedly bursts into tears during the conversation.
“He was proud to be Ukrainian”
Mihalovna says about the video: “Sasha stood there without weapons, but at the same time proud to be Ukrainian.” He was always incredibly brave.
Matsiyevsky was an electrician in the Ukrainian capital Kiev. When the Russian offensive war began a little over a year ago, he joined the army.
“When Sasha left my house, he said to me: I will defend our house, our house, our country and you,” says his mother. “He told me he wanted someone to survive this war – him or his son.” Fortunately, her grandson is also in Germany.
He called just before he died
Mihalovna received the last call from her son on December 29, a day later Oleksandr went missing at the front in eastern Ukraine. “He said to me: Watch out, mom!”
Matsiyevsky fought on the frontline in eastern Soledar, where the Ukrainians fought back against the Russian Wagner mercenaries in December. “He was a defender. He was very brave,” his mother said.
Matsiyevsky’s son apparently also saw the video. Mother Mihalovna: «He threw a tantrum, called me and repeated: “This is daddy! This is daddy! I recognized him, the way he smokes, the way he stands, that’s Daddy!'” Her grandson was terribly hysterical. “He was crying a lot, he was sobbing into the phone.”
The family hopes that the soldiers who shot Matsiyevsky will be held accountable. The dead man’s mother: “I would like to look them in the eye – what kind of people are they that are so cynical and cruel?” (two)
