After the announcement of thousands of job cuts in Germany and Great Britain, the American car manufacturer Ford also wants to cut 1,100 jobs in Spain. The reason the company gave when asked on Friday was that production of the S-Max and Galaxy models at its plant in Almussafes, south of Valencia, will cease in April.
To date, 5,800 people are still employed there. The company is in contact with the unions to organize the job losses as socially as possible.
Ford had previously announced it would cut 2,300 jobs in Germany and 1,000 jobs in the UK. The carmaker is in turmoil after switching to the electric course relatively late. Ford plans to sell only electric cars in the EU from 2030. (sda/awp/dpa)
