The police made this known to AFP news agency on Thursday. These were apparently the first arrests related to various jokes published online under the label “sushi terror”.
The three arrested are said to have disrupted operations at a restaurant of the Kura Sushi chain. One of the group members is said to have drunk soy sauce straight from a bottle intended for all guests. If those arrested are convicted of disrupting operations, they face a prison sentence of up to three years.
The “sushi terror” had sparked outrage in the East Asian country known for its high standards of cleanliness. For example, in another video, a young customer licks his finger and touches a piece of sushi as it passes him on the conveyor belt. Other videos showed customers smearing wasabi as they passed sushi or licking spoons from a cup of green tea.
