Concerns are growing in the United States that China could use its strong position in international supply chains to gain more political and military influence in the world, according to an intelligence report.
Beijing already has enormous economic power through its stake in the supply chain, the report published in Washington on Wednesday shows. However, China could also use this to gain even more political and military influence in the world.
The report called “Annual Threat Assessment” assesses global threats and is prepared by the US Secret Service. Accordingly, Beijing is already using its position in the global supply chain network to force foreign companies and individual states to transfer technology and innovations to China. But Beijing could also try to gain more influence militarily and politically. (sda/afp)
