She can only cry and falls into her mother’s arms. Eva (11) still can’t believe it. A year ago she was kidnapped by Russian troops. “I wanted nothing more than to come back,” she tells United24, an organization that works for Ukraine.
Eva’s mother is also overwhelmed. The 11-year-old is one of 307 children rescued by Ukraine. Only a fraction of those kidnapped by the Russians. According to experts at Yale University in the US, at least 6,000 children, including infants, have been abducted since the start of the war.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (45) shared the video of the rescued children on his Twitter account on Tuesday. And he wrote: “Russia is kidnapping our children. It is the largest state-sponsored abduction of children.” With this forced deportation, Russia is seeking to erase the family and national identity of young Ukrainians. “This is genocide of a nation. Everyone who organized it will be held accountable. called.”
Children should be “Russified”.
The little ones are put in re-education camps or end up in adoption centers. The goal of the Russians: the children must be “Russified”. That means getting to know the culture, history and society of Russia and completely giving up and forgetting your Ukrainian identity. At the same time, the boys receive military training. They must be made fit for war so that they can later fight against their compatriots.
But that’s not all: at the end of February, Ukraine’s human rights commissioner accused Russia of kidnapping and selling Ukrainian children for sexual abuse. There are similar messages in online networks, explained Dmytro Lubinets. They revealed “that Russians kidnap Ukrainian children and make sex videos with them”. For example, 250,000 rubles (more than 3,200 francs) were offered for a boy “who is about to go to school”.
The Human Rights Commissioner of the Ukrainian Parliament posted a chat on Telegram between two users who he said exchanged views about the sale of a boy for child pornography. “He was taken from Ukraine, from a children’s home, he has no family,” one of the users wrote while offering sex videos. “We bring in little ones for this kind of work. He is not the first one we have,” the user said according to the information. (jmh/AFP)
