US President Joe Biden has his first internal party competitor as he runs for the White House again. The 70-year-old writer Marianne Williamson officially announced his candidacy for the Democratic presidential nomination on Saturday.
“As of today, I am running for president of the United States,” she said at an event in Washington, D.C. “The people in power don’t have solutions ready or don’t really support the solutions,” she said in the speech. The people with solutions, on the other hand, would have no power. This needs to be changed.
Your candidacy is considered almost hopeless.
The next attempt
Williamson wanted to sit in the White House for the Democrats in 2020. But she dropped out of the race for the party’s primary because of poor polling. There has been speculation in recent weeks that Williamson may want to run for the Democratic nomination again. In an interview last week, the bestselling author confirmed her intention to participate. In the past, she had also applied for another political office as an independent.
US President Biden has not yet officially announced his intention to run again in the 2024 presidential election. However, the 80-year-old Democrat has expressed his general intention in the past. He is expected to throw his hat in the ring soon. Then he should have no significant competition within his party. Biden is currently charged with an affair involving classified documents from his time as vice president, most recently found in his private rooms. The Ministry of Justice has appointed a special prosecutor for this purpose.
And the Republicans?
So far, ex-President Donald Trump and former US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley have run for the Republicans’ presidential candidacy.
