The public prosecutor in Stade has temporarily suspended the investigation against influencer Fynn Kliemann against payment of a fine. Both sides agreed that Kliemann would pay 20,000 euros to charities, prosecutors’ spokesman Kai Thomas Breas said Thursday. Once the money was received, the process was halted.
The public prosecutor had investigated the musician and businessman Kliemann after a TV report by the satirist Jan Böhmermann. In addition to a suspicion of fraud, the procedure was mainly about a suspicion of a violation of the law against unfair competition, according to Breas.
“I am very happy with the decision,” Kleemann of the “world” said in a written statement. The fact that the allegations of fraud are “false” is very important to him personally. Anyway, he “didn’t do everything right”.
“I talked everything nicely, lost focus and made wrong decisions,” said the 34-year-old. Kliemann’s press attorney Christian Schertz deplored the “bias and stigmatization” of the media. The German press agency (dpa) had also asked Kliemann for a response, initially without results.
The investigation against Kliemann’s ex-business partner, Tom Illbruck, continues. The result is known, said the spokesman for the public prosecutor’s office. Illbruck told the DPA that the public prosecutor had also offered to drop the case against a fine. But he still refuses. “I would like it to be fully clarified that the allegations are not legally tenable.”
Kliemann, who operated an event location near Bremen, and a textile company from North Rhine-Westphalia were criticized in May 2022 by the TV report on ZDF. The central question of the article was whether the country of production was deliberately kept secret when the textile company did business with a wholesaler in 2020 – masks came from Asia instead of Europe.
