Doctors removed skin cancer from US President Joe Biden. It was a basal cell carcinoma, Kevin O’Connor, the president’s personal physician, said in a letter to the White House on Friday. The cancer was removed during the president’s annual health screening on Feb. 16. Tissue research has now confirmed the suspicion of cancer.
The affected tissue was completely removed and no further treatment was needed, the letter said. Unlike other skin cancers, basal cell carcinoma usually does not metastasize. The wound has now healed. The president will continue to be dermatologically checked as part of his comprehensive health care.
Biden is the oldest American president of all time
According to the German Cancer Society, basal cell carcinomas are also referred to as white or light skin cancer. In Central Europe, they are the most common malignant tumors of all. The mortality rate – unlike melanoma and many other cancers – is low, according to the website of the German Cancer Society.
At 80 years old, Biden is the oldest sitting president in American history. His age has always been the subject of heated debate, not just among Biden’s political opponents. He is still expected to be up for re-election in 2024. He would be 82 years old at the start of an eventual second term. (SDA)
