Whether it’s a nuclear attack on the Queen’s funeral, the existence of a special zoo for sodomites in Denmark or now a campaign in Switzerland: Vladimir Solovyov’s talk show “Der Abend” makes so many crazy demands and made claims that the whole madness every head.
Western observers such as the American journalist Julia Davies have reduced it to a simple formula. Since the attack on Ukraine, the Russian state channel Rossiya 1 has been one crazy propaganda show. The main stories are: war and foreign conquest are good, everything non-Orthodox must be destroyed, and it is up to Holy Russia and President Vladimir Putin to enforce this neo-archaic, anti-democratic world order.
In this regard, Solovyov’s monologue of Wednesday, in which he predicts a new advance of the Russian army through Switzerland as in 1799, needs no special attention.
Meanwhile in Russia: Experts on state television argued that the Russian people should be rid of the idea that wars of aggression are wrong as Russia prepares to retake “the historic Russian lands”, restore the USSR and beyond.https: //t .co/T4Z5I0uFLJ

“Let the bastards tremble. Let’s see how Suvorov’s monument is doing. Let’s see if anyone remembers how the hands of Russian soldiers were kissed in Milan,” the TV presenter rants, alluding to the crossing of General Suvorov through the Alps in the time of Napoleon.
This is all typical Rossiya 1 jargon. Much more exciting are those rare moments when Solovyov is contradicted by his hand-picked talk guests, who are allowed to say something between his minutes of debauchery. Then objections such as ‘But the West also has nuclear weapons and can strike back’ are swept aside by elaborations on the honorability of heroic death for Russia.
Also a mid-February broadcast caused a stir in which Solovyov remarked on a Twitter joke that his eldest son Daniil, 21, was pursuing a modeling career in London, while father Vladimir publicly demonized all those young Russians about to do military service. pressed in Ukraine.
THE HYPOCRISY!
Daniil Solovyov, the 21-year-old son of propagandist Vladimir, works as a model in London🇬🇧 (it must be his mother’s genes).
Despite calling for war against Ukraine🇺🇦, Vlad has failed to mention this or his older conscripted son who also studied in the UK🇬🇧. pic.twitter.com/6ezfoRHnAO

Solovyov fell into the trap and responded in the usual manner with a nearly eight-minute diatribe in which he – ironically – threatened “legal action” against the authors of this post. Although his son had successfully studied in London, he had long since returned to Moscow, was “very religious” and was now making documentaries about the Russian Orthodox Church.
Furious fans on the one hand, bitter opponents on the other
The TV presenter was not even able to please other Kremlin propagandists. Because the contradiction is too obvious that he still doesn’t want to send his two eldest sons to the front.
Accordingly, in the corresponding Russian Telegram groups, Vladimir Solovyov is criticized as a hypocrite and a mere showman. The only reason he’s firing so fiercely at the West is because it punishes the 59-year-old ruble billionaire and denies entry to his two villas in Italy, one of which is on Lake Como.
This coincides with Sergei from Moscow saying in a ZDF street poll: “All blatant lies. I don’t know if he believes in them himself. It’s hard to call Solovyov a journalist at all,” says the man in his mid-40s.
This raises the question of what the almost daily grotesque broadcast on Rossija 1 is for, if even the simplest fact-checks or the most basic logic unmask the broadcast frenzy. The young Muscovite Evdokia says in the same study that Solovyov only focuses on the older generation, because young Russians only get information through social media anyway.
Inna Hartwich, correspondent for CH Media in Moscow, sees it more differentiated: “Solojov divides. He has furious fans, but he also has equally furious detractors. While some may consider him exaggerated, they think there’s some truth to what he rattles about.” This is especially true of the common narrative that Russia is respected only when the West trembles at its strength.
According to Hartwich, many Russian viewers no longer even recognize the absurdity of Solovyov’s theses, as even mainstream news programs now use an aggressive vocabulary of war. 1.5 million subscribers each to his YouTube and Telegram channels testify to this loyal following. He can also be sure of the unwavering support of Vladimir Putin, who has repeatedly honored Solovyov as a “true patriot”.
I think if more people watched Russian state television, they would understand why Ukrainians keep fighting… https://t.co/10h4iNccMt

However, when asked whether Western media should also reflexively give in to the provocations of Russian state broadcasters, Canadian author Katherine Brodsky has found a convincing answer: “If more people watched Russian state television, they would understand why the Ukrainians continue their struggle …» (aargauerzeitung.ch)
