After a fire under a high-voltage line in the center of the country, the Atucha I nuclear power plant was taken off the grid for safety reasons. Other power plants also went offline.

As a result, the power went out in the capital Buenos Aires, the province of the same name and in the provinces of Santa Fe, Córdoba, Mendoza, Tucumán and Salta. In total, about 40 percent of Argentines were affected by the massive blackout.
