88-year-old Chinese Zhuo Kangluo disappeared without a trace from a hospital nine years ago. His family suspected that the elderly man was then tragically killed in a car accident. Now it has emerged that they cremated the wrong family member, China News Network reports.
The bug was fixed last August. In a village in southwest China (Chongqing province), a disoriented man was arrested by police officers. He was unable to comment on his identity and seemed otherwise neglected. The police then put up numerous posters with the man’s face in the hope that someone who knew him would come forward.
And indeed: his grandson recognized him! He immediately went to visit his grandfather. When the two met, there was a goosebumps moment. The grandfather began to cry uncontrollably with joy. He couldn’t remember his identity, but he could remember his loved ones. He managed to write down all the names.
Recorded alive again
A DNA test was immediately arranged and found to be a match for Zhuo Kangluo’s brother. The family is very relieved and overjoyed. They have their beloved father and grandfather back. He almost rose from the dead. The 88-year-old is now registered as alive again in the state registers and is receiving help to reintegrate into society.
So the victim of the car accident is not the missing one. He was then misidentified by the police and Kangluo’s relatives and cremated. At that time, neither a DNA test nor an autopsy was performed. Authorities are now trying to determine who the deceased really is. (A)
