That’s how you should talk to Putin

Petro Poroshenko (57) was President of Ukraine from 2014 to 2019. He has experience with Russian President Vladimir Putin (70). In an interview with “Bild”, he clarifies how the negotiations with the Kremlin boss work.

Poroshenko says: “There is a lesson I learned from my long experience in communicating with Putin. Number 1: Don’t trust Putin, because Putin never tells the truth.”

‘Don’t just negotiate with Putin’

He goes even further, summing up: “Point number 2: Don’t be afraid of Putin. Putin only understands the language of violence and will go as far as you let him. Point number 3: Don’t just negotiate with Putin.”

The ex-president of Ukraine makes it clear that there is no point in negotiating the territorial integrity of Ukraine. For him it is clear: «This war will end with the Ukrainian victory. When it will end depends on all of us. From me, how I support the Ukrainian armed forces, how the Western partners provide us with the new weapons.”

Putin is “a crazy madman”

Despite years of experience with Putin, Poroshenko knows that the Russian president remains utterly unpredictable. “No one knows where the Russian soldiers will appear tomorrow,” he says.

And further: «Why not in Dresden, where Putin knows all the streets? Yesterday he saw Kiev as his nest, tomorrow he will think it is Dresden. It’s possible because he’s a crazy lunatic.” (EU)
