The Service for Foreigners and Borders (SEF) of Portugal arrested u Lisbon Airport a 26-year-old foreigner a murder suspect in the Netherlands and carrying a suitcase with a bandage and clothes with traces of blood ia package with pieces of meat.

The arrest took place this Monday, when the detainee tried to use false Italian documents at border control to travel to Brazil and leave the Schengen area, which “raised suspicions of fraud”, SEF said in a statement on Tuesday.

When they verified that the documentation was fake and after investigating it, they discovered his identity.

“After contacting the authorities of the Netherlands, the country where he was staying, it was confirmed that he is wanted on suspicion of the practice of murder that happened on February 26 in Amsterdam, for which the judicial authorities of that country issued, yesterday afternoon, a European arrest warrant for his extradition”, the statement reads.

Apart from the documents he was carrying, they are exempt “bandage and clothes with traces of blood” and “a plastic package containing several pieces of meat and a cell phone.”

The detainee was taken to the scientific police laboratory of the Portuguese Judicial Police (PJ).

He was referred to the Hospital de Santa Maria, in Lisbon, this morning for treatment of an injury to his right arm and is expected to be discharged this Tuesday.

He will then be taken to the Court of Appeal in Lisbon for a first judicial examination and the necessary measures to be taken.
